NOTE:  The WV-GAP species distribution maps are currently off-line for server maintenance and update (12/03).

A primary goal of the WV Gap project is to predict species distributions from a combination of maps of known range, habitat preference data, and maps of actual habitat occurrence.  Known range maps are presented in a hexagon-based grid.  Presence or absence within each hexagon is determined from point locality records, museum records, and expert knowledge.

Using the interactive maps

1.  Choose a taxonomic group by selecting the button next to your choice (butterflies, amphibians & reptiles, birds, or mammals)

2.  Choose a species to map from the drop-down list

3.  Press Update Map to view results for currently selected species
